Who We Are

About the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM)
“Advancing Computing as a Science & Profession”
ACM brings together computing educators, researchers, and professionals to inspire dialogue, share resources, and address the field’s challenges. As the world’s largest computing society, ACM strengthens the profession’s collective voice through strong leadership, promotion of the highest standards, and recognition of technical excellence. ACM supports the professional growth of its members by providing opportunities for life‐long learning, career development, and professional networking.
Founded at the dawn of the computer age, ACM’s reach extends to every part of the globe, with more than half of its more than 100,000 members residing outside the U.S. Its growing membership has led to Councils in Europe, India, and China, fostering networking opportunities that strengthen ties within and across countries and technical communities. Their actions enhance ACM’s ability to raise awareness of computing’s important technical, educational, and social issues around the world.

About Us – ACM @ Lander College for Women
Since 2018, when Lander College for Women students initiated the ACM Student Chapter at LCW, LCW students have provided their peers with a computer science community through ACM membership. The LCW student chapter of the ACM serves as the computer science club and hosts social and educational events throughout each semester. We endeavor to create a community where all computer science majors at LCW are included, as well as all other students who are interested in supporting and learning about the computing field.
Additionally, chapter officers work to find and share various computer science resources with club members, including the annual student-run Hack It Together hackathon at LCW.
Membership & Leadership
At the beginning of each semester, all new computer science students, as well as any other interested students, are added by chapter officers as members of the LCW ACM Student Chapter. Additionally, at the end of each semester, if there are any outgoing chapter officers, new officers are appointed to all open positions (at a minimum, chair, vice chair, and treasurer). All chapter members are eligible to become chapter officers and can participate in chapter elections when they are held.
The LCW ACM student chapter’s faculty advisor is Dr. Andrew Katz. Current chapter officers are Chana Blitz, Moussia Adry, and Sara Bleier.
